I am a writer at a communications firm. In my job, I frequently used spell check to get the readability statistics on selected sections of a document to pinpoint the problem areas. Now the only way to do this is incredibly inefficient and time consuming -- that is, cut and paste a block of text to a new Word document, spell check that entire document to get the readability stat, then delete the text so I can cut and paste another block to get the readability stat for a different section. I cannot understand why the ability to use spell check on just the selected text was removed. Please bring this back asap!

I just got switched from a Mac to PC at work and was shocked to find that in this version of Word I cannot spell check -- and more importantly get readability statistics for -- a selected block of text. This is infuriating. It is incredibly inefficient and time consuming to have to cut and paste a block of text to a new Word document, spell check the entire document to get the readability stat, then delete the text so I can cut and paste another block to get the readability stat for a different section. I'm just assuming that the Microsoft team that came up with this "improved" spell check did not include any editors or writers. Please bring back the old functionality!
