I have recently updated from Office 2003 to Office 365. One of the problems that I am having with Word 2016 is inserting comments and having them sequentially numbered. With Office 2003 when I inserted a comment, a sequential number would be assigned to the comment. This comment number would appear in the column on the right side of the screen with a line into the body of the Word file highlighting the words where the comment was inserted.
Then, if I came back and edited the 2003 Word file by adding additional comments anywhere in the body of the text file each of the following comment numbers would be incremented.
With Word 2016 using the Print Layout and the Web Layout formats I now get something similar to the Office 2003 formats, but neither of these Word 2016 formats show the comment numbers nor do they tie them back to the Word file text to show the area where the comments should go to when printing the 2016 Word file.
With Word 2016 the only way to get the sequential comment numbering to appear is in the Draft format, but this does not show the actual comment.
I found this Office 2003 feature extremely useable as it allowed me to coordinate each of these Word 2003 comments with the corresponding Power Point slide number.
How do I do this with Office 365 / Word 2016?
