Is it really possible to use Word with VoiceOver in iOS?
I am an esxperienced user of iOS but have not figured out how to reliably use Word with VoiceOver.
First, my system:
- iOS 12 and now iOS 13.1
- iPhone XR
- Logitech bluetooth keyboard
Here are two problems which I can't get around:
When I first get into the Word app and open a blank document template I am placed in an edit field. I can type in the field and navigate through text fine. However, when I begin to select text by hitting Shift+Option+LeftArrow or Shift+Option+RightArrow successfully, words are selected but VoiceOver does NOT speak each word as it is being selected. Similarly, VoiceOver does not speak text as it is being selected when using Shift+Option+Up/DownArrow. VoiceOver does speak text as it is being selected this way in ALL other apps and edit fields. The problem ONLY occurs in the Word app (and has for a very, very, long time!).
The second major problem with the Word app is that if I open the app and then open a blank document as described above, if I then close the document and try to open a second blank document I am NOT placed in the edit field of the new document as I was the first time a blank document was opened. In fact, I have not been able to figure out how to navigtate to an editable area so that I can edit or add text to the newly opened document. No amount of flicking, expanding or collapsing the ribbon, etc. brings me to an area where I can enter text. I use the "Mobile" view but changing to the "Print" view doesn't work any better. Why doesn't opening a second document after closing a first document work differently? This doesn't make sense. The only way I have been able to open a new second document is to kill the Word app and start over again.
These are two problems that make it almost impossible for the VoiceOver user to reliably use the Word app on an iPhone running iOS. Both problems have existed for a very long time despite making MS aware of them several times. I would really like the ability to use the MS Word app in iOS on my iPhone so that I can sync with OneDrive and with my PC MS Office Subsription documents.
If you need more feedback or want to connect directly just let me know.
Thanks. Hopefully these long standing issues can be quickly resolved.
