Navigation and editing hotkeys should work in the iOS Word app as they do in other apps
When using the Word app in iOS 11 with VoiceOver and a bluetooth keyboard I am finding that a number of the navigation and editing hotkeys do not work in the Word app as they do in other apps. This makes it difficult for the blind user to edit reliably in Word.
For example, Option+LeftArrow will navigate backward by one word and VO will speak the word in all apps except when using the Word app. In Word, focus is not moved by this hotkey.
Similarly, Shift+Option+RightArrow will move to the next word, highlight the word, and speak the word in all apps except in Word. This hotkey does nothing in word.
Interestingly, some standard hotkeys do work in Word as they do in other apps. For example Option+Right arrow does move to the next word and speak it in the Word app as it does in other apps when using VoiceOver and a bluetooth keyboard.
summary: It would be nice if the standard VoiceOver hotkeys used for navigation and editing worked in Word as they do in almost all other apps.
Okay, now it is Nov. 4, 2019 and the MS Word app still does not work properly with my Logitech keyboard.
In all other apps besides Word, when I highlight a word at a time by hitting Shift+Option+Right/Left arrow keys, VoiceOver speaks the word as it is highlighted and reports that the word is now highlighted. This is the way things are supposed to work with VoiceOver and keyboard navigation.
Word is the only app for which sequentially hitting this keyboard command does properly highlight each successive word but for which VoiceOver does not either speak each word as it is highlighted nor indicate that each word has been highlighted. Thus this can't be a keyboard issue as one MS representative tried to tell me.
I would really appreciate if this problem could be rectified since it makes editing in word almost impossible.
Latest version of the Word app
iOS 13.2 (although this problem goes back to at least iOS 12 or 11!)
iPhone XR (although I've also experienced this on an iPhone 6)
Please, please, do something about this!
Sadlyu, this is still not fixed in the most recent release of Word for iOS as of a few days ago. The Help documentation clearly says that Shift+Option+Right/Left Arrow should select text, which it does, but this is not useful to a person using VoiceOver if the selected text is not spoken by Voiceover as it is in all other apps and edit fields. How is a blind person expected to edit Word documents in iOS?
Some of this behavior has been fixed since my first post. Option+ArrowKeys now properly navigates through iOS Word docs when using VoiceOver. Unfortunately, although Shift+Option+ArrowKeys does select text as it should, VoiceOver does not speak the selected text as it is being selected. In all other apps and edit fields Shift+Option+Arrow keys does speak text with VoiceOver as text is being selected. This feedback is only broken in Word. Please, please fix this bug that has been around for a long, long time! It is very difficult for the VoiceOver user to reliably and efficiently edit Word docs in iOS if the selected text is not sppoken by VoiceOver.
