One idea would be to add a new zoom button to the View tab. if there are comments, the Page Width button zooms out to show both the page and comment pane. A new button could zoom to show just the page, ideally zooming in to fully use the screen and exclude the margins. Moreover, the view should also ignore any accidentally minor sideways scrolling, so that the view remains centered on the page. Only a deliberate scroll to the left would reveal the comments pane.
I support this idea. As soon as one comment is entered, the Word canvas expands to the right with a comment column, and the view shrinks automatically to show the page and comments. This makes the text difficult to read on an iPad Mini in portrait. One can of course zoom back to 100% and move the page back into the view, but these are additional steps. Also ideally comments would float over the page.
