Allow to customise the ribbon, as in the Windows version
and allow to define specific commands as additional items in the ribbon, similarly to what was feasible in the buttons (above the ribbon) in the 2011 version.
Great news, we’re happy to report that your suggestion is now part of Office 365. You can now customize the Quick Access Toolbar (QAT) and Ribbon. For details, please see this article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3165798 . Thanks for the feedback!
When will we see this occurring?

I am deeply disappointed that the QAT has been discontinued. There are commands you simply can't get to anymore!
The customizable quick access toolbar was a real joy to use and the mini toolbar was an exemplar of convenience. Neither exists in the mac version of Word 2016. Please bring them back! Working with the mac version of Word 2016 is simply an unpleasant experience without their presence.
This version looks like a "lite" version of the paid one.
I want to have the possibility to add "save as..." to the shortcuts ai I have done, as first customization, to all my office installation as a first step since early nineties...
Add let us customize "ribbons", not every single user has the same writing needs
Using a software like this is painful....
This is keeping me on Word 2011. It's insane that the newer version drops functionality. What is this, an Apple app?

Ribbon customization via Ribbon XML, which now can be enabled (see: http://dev.office.com/blogs/VBA-improvements-in-Office-2016), does only help the user who is experienced in this and has a windows system(!), because Custom UI Editor Tool remains Windows only. I cannot see why Microsoft killed the feature of customizing ribbon and command bar by mouse strokes. These are essentials for any user who wants to work with a Word showing only the buttons one is using. Over decades this worked. There was no reason to alter this. In my opion Word for Mac 2016 is going abig step backward. It's a backgrade not an upgrade and so I will do. Back to Word 2011!
The mini toolbar for Windows was extremely helpful but is not included on a Mac! As I review my document, cut and paste, it has become a tedious task to move my mouse between the Ribbon and the highlighted word!!! I like the convenience of the pop up mini toolbar under the highlighted word, it makes it very convenient!!!! Please give us the option of activating this feature, don't just take it out completely!!!!!!
Please give us the option of activating the pop up mini toolbar that was in Windows for Mac. This was very helpful and saved me the tedious task of going back and forth between the ribbon and the highlighted text for my documents. Please bring it back and give us the option of activating it or not.
Function for adding icons to the ribbon is really necessary
A visual disaster. Hard to pick through all the little icons to find what you're looking for, and icons that should be together are now separated. If we could have a "My Little Ribbon" module so that we could fill it up with ONLY the commands we need and use . . .
Agree also that for big desktops the ribbons should have a vertical option.
I want to customize the Ribbon. In Word 2011 I inserted an icon for "Flag for Follow Up." I used that tool constantly. Please bring it b
Over half of our agency uses Mac Office - several have upgraded to 2016 - Customize quick access toolbar is a must have!
I am missing the quick access toolbar in EXCEL and WORD!
Word 2016 for Mac is, even for me as a fairly basic user, completely unusable. I rely on this product for almost everything I do in my job and as such, I need it to look a specific way in order for me to do what I need to do in an efficient way. That means having easy access to important commands and features. Microsoft has taken that away and, in doing so, overlooked how their customers use the product.
Everybody on the planet customises Word to make it work for better them. So, I'm absolutely stunned that this important product was released without considering such a basic element of user productivity. Truly shocking.

I've been using Office apps on the Mac since there were no Office apps on the PC. I can't say at which version for Windows passed the Mac but I've lost all hope of parity in my life time. Maybe my grand children might see that day.

Our company (60+ writers and editors) depend heavily upon QATs to manage the enormous number of styles required by our complex publishing projects. We cannot upgrade until QATs are enabled for Word 2016 for Mac.

I subscribed to 365 to get a feel for the new Office. I was happy with so much in it—bugs that have been fixed, the contextual side bar, the snappiness of the program. Until I discovered that the customizable toolbar is gone.
I consider myself a power PowerPoint user and I rely on the efficiency that comes from using the toolbar.
I promptly canceled my subscription and will not subscribe again unless the toolbar is added back in. And I will be encouraging my company not to upgrade if they start to consider it. It's just not worth it, unfortunately.

I just paid $150 for the stand alone version of Office 2016 for Mac. Unfortunately, I purchased through Amazon and cannot get a refund. The fact that you cannot customize the ribbon and toolbars make this a non starter for me. I've been trying to find out if Office 365 allows for customization and can't even get a straight answer about that. Does anyone know if 365 supports this feature. If so, I'll eat my $150 and go ahead and sign up.....

Please add the ability to customize ribbon - preferably via XML. It would be great if customizations for PC version could be used as-is for Mac.
