Comment-and-Tracked-Changes-Only Permissions for Word Docs
Currently there is only a checkbox to allow editing or not editing privileges when sharing a Word Doc. This isn't especially useful for collaboration.
I've figured out a way around this if I want to let collaborators comment, but not edit, and that's to make it editable but protect the file. However, I have to choose between comment and tracked changes for what to allow a user to do.
A combination of both settings works a lot better when collaborating with others. However, this option doesn't currently exist.
Essentially, If I could protect the doc from untracked editing, but allow both comments, a reviewer has the flexibility to track a change of something they see in-line quickly AND suggest a more complicated change without a solution in mind in a comment.
The reason this is useful is if I am sharing a document with multiple people with multiple levels of familiarity with Word's basic settings and who aren't all responsible for editing the doc (say, a developer and a product owner), but they still need to reference the doc regularly, they can collaborate without fear of deleting or changing something accidentally.
I'd love to see the ability to share a doc with comment and track change permissions only, or at the very least, another option for protecting a document but allowing not just comment or tracked changes, but both.
