Navigation Pane - Customization default settings
Full context: I'm a UX Writer who manages lengthy copy docs for apps and other digital products and have recently been forced to switch to MS Word.
I (and many others, if Googling this idea is any evidence) use the Document Map feature of the Navigation Pane quite frequently for very large documents. I have no way to tailor the document map to my needs which is ruining my workflow and my ability to collaborate efficiently.
There is a way to set up a macro to default open to the Document Map when opening a Word Doc which is fine, but this could easily be a more user-friendly option.
In addition, the Document Map defaults to expanding every style which completely negates the purpose when working with a long document with many styles (which is the only use-case for which I really need it). I read that there used to be the ability to default which heading level is shown in a macro using "Show Heading", but this doesn't seem to work on versions of Word newer than 2013.
Can someone PLEASE either restore the ability to use Show Heading in macros or just make the entire process simpler with customizable default options right in Word's UI for the Navigation Pane and Document Map?
