Huge installation size is debilitating on SSD macs
Hi I have an unfortunately common 128 GB SSD MacBook. Office 2016 for Mac is huge compared to 2011 that I had to uninstall most of it just to keep Excel, the part that I need most. Very annoying. What is taking up all that space, the blue toolbar?
I fully agree that the size of the 2016 applications is blasphemous, given that they bring little to no improvements in comparison with the 2011 edition, except for enhancements in the aesthetic department.
As far as I understand their size is so huge because each of the 2016 programs acts as a self-contained application and they do not share common resources. So, for example, even the fonts are embedded separately in the different apps, which means that the same thing is stored on your computer in a number of copies. Very frustrating indeed. It seems like they are trying to make it easier for themselves rather than more convenient for their users.
