Is it possible to get a function to embed entire pdf files as an icon into documents instead of only single pages at the time

We don't need the full Windows OLE editing feature. We just need to be able to get the embedded document out of Word so we can view it. And if you can do that on Word for Mac, could you please port that to Word for Windows so we can extract embedded files there too?
This is truly, truly needed. As another person posted already, it seems so odd that we can embed files (other than "pictures" / jpegs, etc.) in emails, yet Microsoft has not (or will not) to date, make this functionality available for Mac users. There are many Mac users -- all of whom pay Microsoft for the privilege of using their products. Please, please, please . . . make this happen for Word AND Excel. Professionals need to share PDFs in business.

Embedding requires OLE, a Windows only technology. Office for Mac includes a limited port of OLE, so Word can be embedded in Excel and PowerPoint and Excel can be embedded in Word and PowerPoint. That's all.
Apple has no interest in OLE. Microsoft has no interest in programming OLE for another company's file format.

Personally, I don't need complex OLE functionalities (i.e. embed part of a document in another one).
I think that what most people really want is to be able to attach any file into an Office document in the same way they do with a Mail message!
I don't believe that this is a complex functionality to implement! So, come on Microsoft! Please, make an effort!
The ability to open .pdfs for most is critical especially as a business user as clients embed files all the time. Please fix this for Mac users - this has been an issue for years and any work arounds no long work!
Before I buy Office 2019 for Mac I would like to know if OLE support was added to this release. Windows versions of Office provide this functionality but Mac users must buy an inferior product that doesn't allow embedding a PDF in a Word document.
Microsoft, how difficult can it be to add OLE support to Office for Mac? Hopefully, this problem has gone away.

I need this function please!
I am disappointed to learn about this missing function after purchasing of office 2016. It is just professional, as this function is used in all organisations. As long, as such important functions are not compatible, mac usage in most bigger organisations will be no option. I would love to have this function.
Please, this seems to be an issue already since 2011... how can it be so cumbersome to have similar features in Mac and PC?
I need to send password protected files, and Word is the only way I know of, but my clients who have Macs, can't open them. Need help.
