Compatibility mode - automate conversion
Some people find converting older file formats too difficult to figure out and do.
2 suggestions:
1 create a user option to automate format conversion. When the user turns the option on, all older files are automatically opened into the file conversion process.
2 create a mass conversion process. I don't understand why in the last 30 years of complaints you haven't done it. Supply a template or macro that converts all files in a folder and it's sub folders without user input.

Option to remove timestamps from comments & track changes but not remove author name
Editors the world over are looking for a way to remove all timestamps from comments & track changes but not remove the comment & track changes author name. The timestamps are read-only, so cannot be changed with a macro, but can only be changed by going into the Word .zip file and running a Find & Replace. This could be a property that could be locked with a password at the document creator's discretion.

QAT Overflow to 2nd Row
The QAT is nice since it is the only usable way of customizing the ribbon. But since you (dis)"improved" the QAT buttons by making them phatter to be "touch friendly" and PC UNFRIENDLY(!) it is less useful.
.
Hiding "extra" buttons in a drop down reduces the usefulness of the QAT.
.
Create a user option to display the QAT on 2 or more rows as required.21 votes -

User-friendly pagination
Hello, Microsoft Community,
I'm a student and a couple of times we write coursework, diploma and so on. Of course we use Microsoft Word for it. And you know, one of the requirements of this type of work is pagination which is usually used in the footer of pages.
But there are 2 typical additional requirements for it:
1)Title page (first page) shouldn't have pagination (number 1). It's not difficult, every student can find the option "Different first page". Thanks a lot for it.
2)We usually have 1-2 pages with description of the task for diploma, coursework which also should't be numbered. And to be honest, I've spent pretty a lot of time to solve this part. Even when I found this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBf9HPP1hQE (thanks to author), I didn't catch the idea immediately. And if you read the comments to the video, you can see that I'm not alone with this problem. I don't think that it is the best solution which can be applied to this problem. And you know, I spoke with many students and nobody knows how to solve this problem easily. So my suggestion is to make some user-friendly checkbox called "Different this page". If you have the better idea, as you wish. But I think the problem exists and you should to improve it.
I'm really sorry if solution already exists and I just haven't found it, but I can say 100% that this solution isn't popular.
Thank you very much.

Spell Check - Identify Single Letters
When using spellchecks in Office, the spellcheck ignores single letters, which can often leave spelling mistakes.
For example "n" is not highlighted when typing on/in/no
as with all other letter s t u v w, would not normally be used singularly, the spellcheck/grammar check do not recognise them as incorrect.
It needs to flag/highlight where singular letters are not a/i....23 votes -
Add APA 7th Edition
With the release of the 7th Edition of the APA Publication manual, this style needs to be reflected in Word for use in references, citations, and the reference list as well as a document template.

Reinstate readability statistics for sentences and paragraphs in Word 365
I've just upgraded from 2010 to 365 and found that I now cannot check readability statistics by sentence, paragraph and chapter in my work as a writer. Word 365 can only do that for a whole document, which is useless for me and for many other writers. I feel duped and angry at now having to pay more for a product that does less - and doesn't do the job I've been doing for ten years with Word 2010. Please reinstate the functionality for readability statistics by sentences and paragraphs in Word 365. I just can't believe that anyone in MS would upgrade a flagship product and remove functionality in the process. It's beyond my comprehension. Please, please, please bring it back.

HYBRID PDF and PDF / A
Hello, in the academic world it is highly recommended to export a document as a PDF. However, sometimes it is necessary to edit the PDF and, in many cases, you end up having a problem with the formatting - we say that it is "broken". In this sense, exporting as a HYBRID PDF is the most advisable.
In addition, in Brazil, when sending documents to State organizations, the document must be sent as a PDF / A. Would it also be possible to choose the PDF / A version (1b, 2b, 3b)?
Such functions are present in LibreOffice and, as an active user of Microsoft 365, I would like these functions to be placed throughout the suite, especially: EXCEL, POWERPOINT and WORD.

Add the ability to publish workgroup/organization templates on Office 365.
The current configuration only allows a local path or a server share. In a cloud first world, this is an outdated method.
There should be a function to publish workgroup and organization templates to users from an Office 365 cloud location. This function should allow the Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) on the desktop AND the Office applications online to both have access to the Organization's templates. Especially with users more distant now due to COVID this functionality is needed.

Upgrade of Mail Merge
Mail merge is in desperate need of an upgrade. I would ideally like to see the following features added in the near future.
- Multiple recipients support including CC and BCC.
- Subject line can contain merge fields
- Support for office files or PDFs to be merged and sent to the recipient(s) as attachments.
- Further integration with OneDrive and SharePoint.
- If there are multiple email in Outlook, the ability to choose when merging which email address the emails are sent from.

Highlight colors
I enjoy the extensive color pallet for both the text and highlighting options offered in Excel, and the same pallet is offered for text written in Word.
I am disappointed by the limited highlighting shades. May I have more highlighting color options for Word? It would be wonderful to have the same, extensive pallet for highlighting as for the text.67 votes -
Implement the updated grammer style: APA 7th Edition
Currently, Word 365 and Word 2019 both have Grammar Style: APA 6th Edition. This would be a tremendous help to those who write a lot of papers.

Add ability to be able to extend/edit language dictionary(especially for punctuation marks) for Dictate function in Office 365 Apps
Hello dear Microsoft, I'm really enjoying using Dictate function in Office 365 App. It's a wonderful feature and I'm using it on daily basis. Thank you for this feature. As I’m using it every day I noticed some imperfection in this feature.
Therefore I would like to suggest to add ability to edit/extend language dictionary for this feature especially for punctuation mark as it so limited https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/dictate-your-documents-in-word-3876e05f-3fcc-418f-b8ab-db7ce0d11d3c?ui=en-us&rs=en-us&ad=usThank you for taking it into consideration

Re speech recognition dictation in Word: No way to adjust time dictation is available. Shuts off after only 15 seconds.
Preference needed to adjust time dictation is available before shutting off. Also, keyboard keystroke combination or single key needed to reactivate dictation mode in Word and elsewhere.

Beeline Reader
Please offer the Beeline Reader format on MS Word. Having this available on Word would be a great help for students and professionals who have to read long documents on a daily basis. Beeline also really helps people with disabilities like dyslexia that make reading very difficult.
If the United Nations and Stanford have seen fit to honor Beeline, perhaps it's time for MS to make this available in Word? In the meantime, I'll just keep uploading my Word docs to Google Docs, where I can read them in BeeLine format...wish I could do it in Word though!

Transcription on Word
I see that Word now has a transcription function. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/transcribe-your-recordings-7fc2efec-245e-45f0-b053-2a97531ecf57.
But it is available only on Word for the web. It would be good to have it included in my desktop version.11 votes
