  1. IMPORTANT: allow selection to be locked.

Many many times I have carefully formatted a complex table only to find it messed up when the doc is read in. Badly needed is an operation which prevents any change to a selection.

  2. Fewer modes and disappearing windows, please.

A dialog window should remain up until the user dismisses it. The present way requires more clicks and selections than necessary.

  3. The page cutoff always moves; should stay stationary.

Whenever you try to see how many pages it is, the line always takes a moment to just stay and stop moving. There should be an option to show where the pages ends by showing it cut off and a continuation on the next page. This would help a lot when I'm using this for Humanities (Pre AP World History). Thank you so much for reading; this has been a great/astounding way for me to be able to complete my work without spending a dime!

  4. site enhance: another link to answers forum

The home page for the Word suggestion site has links to the Answers forum, ie:

    <snip>
Need technical support? Please visit the Microsoft Community or the Office Support site.
    </snip>

But "microsoft community" is not a very descriptive name for the function answers forum.

Add links to the answers forum, and the "Office support site" to the links collection on the right side of the site.

  5. draft saves

Users should be able to save draft copies in the same files to prevent having to look around in their folders or desktops of previous drafts; comparisons between drafts can be done within the file.

  6. Updating TOC's

When updating an index or TOC, make ERROR! say exactly what the problem is. Right now one has to guess and search.

  7. Make Repair Document better

it's not obvious how to do a repair. Make the process much clearer. Also it should tell the user what, if anything, it had to fix. This would help the user see what was wrong. If nothing was fixed the user would know to look elsewhere for the problem.

  8. Put indexes last

That's where they are in every book I've looked at. There is a way to move them after the Endnotes but it's complicated and hard to remember. The default should be INDEXES LAST.

  9. Must read entire file in for TOC's and indexes to be correct

When only some of the doc is in memory, It is idiotic to insert totally wrong page numbers in TOC's and indexes - with no warning! Elementary! Fix it!

  11. Bug in popup menu

If you insert an object in the main text, when right-clicking on it, you have the format object menu. Now, you place that object in a table's cell, right-click, the format object should be there and it's not. If you want to format the object, you have to move it out, do the format object then place it back in the table. Annoying.

  12. Referencing multiple items simutaneously

A great deal of my work involves legal documents. I find the way Word handles “references” to be rather juvenile.

    EXAMPLE:

    1. This is item 1

    2. This is item 2
      a. This is item 2.a
      b. This is item 2.b
      i. This is item 2.b.i

    3. This is item 3

Now, if I want to reference items 2 through item 2.b.i, I have to manually reference each item individually and then adjust the actual way it is displayed.

I usually use LaTeX with TeXstudio as the front end. This allows me to mark item 2 and item 2.b.1 in the document. I…

  13. 1 GB free offline usage access.

As the title is very much self-explanatory. I would first like to say that I admire Microsoft for the MS Office, Xbox, and Skype. Well, the logic behind this idea is to keep people comfortable to following rules and prevent them from doing a venal activity. I am stating this idea because as per my knowledge Microsoft already provided 15 GB online MS Office access for free. Still, under current situation it seems people are doing venal activities. The rational might be a lack of cognizance of online version or, a poor internet connectivity. There might be other reason too.…

  14. When deleting a section ask what must happen

When deleting a section the section setting drop back onto the previous section. The only way to delete a section is to create a section post the one you want to delete and then delete that newly created section.
Deleting a section should be a delete and the previous section should work forwards. However, if you don't want to do that at least give the option on a delete of a section by a pop-up dialogue asking what must happen: Take on the previous section or Keep the current section settings

  15. Accidental cAPS correction function

Please enable this function in the envelope and label dialogue boxes under "Mailings." I depend on it constantly, and it would be helpful here.

  16. Switching to/from Header mode is inefficient

... because the displayed page jumps somewhere else, up to 20 or 30 pages away. This means I have to scroll to the header/footer I want to edit or to the page I want to edit. Very annoying!

  18. Table of content issues

While doing group assignments online on word-online, we face problems while updating the table of content. we can create the table of content easily, but when we need to update it, we have to download the documents and do it on word offline. That's time consuming and problematic as well.

  19. Index entries are too sensitive

Differences in spaces should not matter, and differences in Styles should not matter either. Far too often I have made an index where seemingly identical subheadings are placed under separate headings rather than together under one heading. Very annoying and time-consuming to find and fix all the entries in the text.

  20. Extreme delay

When using Home > Paragraph > Numbering for the first time after reading a document in, the delay can be up to 15 MINUTES, during which time I can't use Word for anything. This is still true after repairing Office 2013 and after repairing the doc. Why does this happen?
