  1. Field codes: remembering which ones are possible

    Having to memorize them is like DOS, and is obsolete. Much better, when field codes are needed, to present a list with a short description of each.

    • The page cutoff always moves; should stay stationary.

      Whenever you try to see how many pages it is, the line always takes a moment to just stay and stop moving. There should be an option to show where the pages ends by showing it cut off and a continuation on the next page. This would help a lot when I'm using this for Humanities (Pre AP World History). Thank you so much for reading; this has been a great/astounding way for me to be able to complete my work without spending a dime!

      • Keyboard shortcuts need to be save-able in the template (dotx)

        If you add a keyboard shortcut to a style in the file and save the file as a template, then open a new file on the basis of that template, the keyboard shortcuts are gone. Long overdue, broken since 2007

        • Tag a person within a shared document

          I currently have a shared Word document on Sharepoint/OneDrive for Business. I want to be able to tag one of the people I've shared this document with. That tag will send an email to the person, with an optional note, informing that they were tagged.
          This would make it great for collaboration on documents. You could tell personA to fill out one section, and personB to fill out another while you're working on the master document

          • Allow prefix of page numbers with custom characters and fields

            Currently word does not allow users to set advance page numbering for documents, beyond the prefix of chapter numbers. This can be problematic when combining chapter number and appendixes. For example here is the format of me thesis:

            * From first page (excluding cover) to just before introduction: Lower-case Roman numerals (i, ii, iii, ...)

            * From introduction to last chapter: Arabic numerals (1, 2, 3, ...)

            Now what I would like to do is have my page numbering in my appendixes (A to E) with a prefix that is the ordinal letter of the appendix, followed by a hyphen…

            • Find & Replace: Including Headers and Footers

              I'm a Microsoft Word expert. I've used every version of the Office suite since I began working professionally in the late 90's. I've seen dozens of features come and go and get reintroduced based on user feedback respectively (Alt + selecting of text, etc). ONE THING that I've yet to see implemented in the increasingly user-friendly Microsoft Word desktop program is the ability to Find & Replace text across all sections of a document including Headers and Footers. Find & Replace is a feature that I, personally, as a technical writer, take advantage of more times than I can count…

              • site enhance: another link to answers forum

                The home page for the Word suggestion site has links to the Answers forum, ie:

                <snip>
                Need technical support? Please visit the Microsoft Community or the Office Support site.
                </snip>

                But "microsoft community" is not a very descriptive name for the function answers forum.

                Add links to the answers forum, and the "Office support site" to the links collection on the right side of the site.

                • Display macro shortcut key

                  There seems to be no easy way to find what the shortcut key is for a given macro. Fix this!

                  • draft saves

                    Users should be able to save draft copies in the same files to prevent having to look around in their folders or desktops of previous drafts; comparisons between drafts can be done within the file.

                    • Updating TOC's

                      When updating an index or TOC, make ERROR! say exactly what the problem is. Right now one has to guess and search.

                      • Make Repair Document better

                        it's not obvious how to do a repair. Make the process much clearer. Also it should tell the user what, if anything, it had to fix. This would help the user see what was wrong. If nothing was fixed the user would know to look elsewhere for the problem.

                        • Put indexes last

                          That's where they are in every book I've looked at. There is a way to move them after the Endnotes but it's complicated and hard to remember. The default should be INDEXES LAST.

                          • Must read entire file in for TOC's and indexes to be correct

                            When only some of the doc is in memory, It is idiotic to insert totally wrong page numbers in TOC's and indexes - with no warning! Elementary! Fix it!

                                • Bug in popup menu

                                  If you insert an object in the main text, when right-clicking on it, you have the format object menu. Now, you place that object in a table's cell, right-click, the format object should be there and it's not. If you want to format the object, you have to move it out, do the format object then place it back in the table. Annoying.

                                  • Please let us disable grayscale antialiasing. Return ClearType to Word 2016.

                                    I thought it was clear since the release of Word 2013 that grayscale antialiasing is a horrible, horrible thing that skews fonts to something that no longer resembles the original.

                                    Your users doesn't exactly adore grayscale antialiasing.

                                    We're halfway through 2015. We shouldn't have to resort to using third-party software (like MacType, which as of Office 2013 doesn't even work, meaning that we've got to deal with the horrible rendering). It's a word processor. You're working with fonts! At least get the shapes right!

                                    • Referencing multiple items simutaneously

                                      A great deal of my work involves legal documents. I find the way Word handles “references” to be rather juvenile.

                                      EXAMPLE:

                                      1. This is item 1
                                      2. This is item 2
                                      a. This is item 2.a
                                      b. This is item 2.b

                                      3. This is item 3

                                      • 1 GB free offline usage access.

                                        As the title is very much self-explanatory. I would first like to say that I admire Microsoft for the MS Office, Xbox, and Skype. Well, the logic behind this idea is to keep people comfortable to following rules and prevent them from doing a venal activity. I am stating this idea because as per my knowledge Microsoft already provided 15 GB online MS Office access for free. Still, under current situation it seems people are doing venal activities. The rational might be a lack of cognizance of online version or, a poor internet connectivity. There might be other reason too.…

                                        • When deleting a section ask what must happen

                                          When deleting a section the section setting drop back onto the previous section. The only way to delete a section is to create a section post the one you want to delete and then delete that newly created section.
                                          Deleting a section should be a delete and the previous section should work forwards. However, if you don't want to do that at least give the option on a delete of a section by a pop-up dialogue asking what must happen: Take on the previous section or Keep the current section settings
