Headers in Table not displayed in Navigation pane - fix this
For a long time, if you put a heading style inside of a table, it will not display in the navigation pane. This is a PAIN.
Thanks for your feedback! We’re reviewing your suggestion.
Has there been any update on this - it really is inconvenient
FIX IT - pretty much just going to move the entire org to Google if i find one more ridiculous bug like this in a supposedly mature product
Note that the suggested solution below (Dev Hammy, December 09, 2018 01:30) does not work at all. That solution does not relate to headings inside a Table.
So, now it has been under review for 3 years. Is there another site like uservoice that more directly impacts Microsoft development?
Given that many technical documents have tables, and some of these documents are very long, the navigation pane is a great tool during a review to cross check....except when headers in the tables are not displayed in the navigation pane (and the majority of the document consists of tables). Please fix this!

Earth to MS, are you receiving us, come in please :-)
Seriously though, please fix this - it is a pain and diminishes Word significantly...
I can't believe it too... it's already September 2019, and yet this issue was left unattended for so long.. Similar situation happened when inserting a caption inside a Table.. u can't do it directly.. it has to be cut and pasted into the Table.. please sort these out..

Why in the world is this not fixed? Makes the nav pane limited in usefulness to advanced users.

Encountered today, cannot believe this has been here for 4 years...
Please fix this asap
Yes it is a PAIN. It is so evident why users need it.
No formal response given from MS ?
Is anybody from MS reading these comments ?
Please fix this
FIX IT! Listen to the users.
After twenty or so minutes in Live Chat, they realized that it wasn't an issue with my Word but not an option in Word overall. I was told to vote here and when I said that it had over 100 votes and was from 2015 the response was, "Yes, this was raised just last 2015." Just last 2015. Just 4 years ago. I voted, for what it's worth. But there is not likely to be thousands of votes as I imagine a lot of people don't have a need for this feature and those who do use a different program to do it rather than voting here and hoping it will one day be added.
This is a real concern. I am collating 100's of pages of tables for my company and require quick navigation between tables. In review for 3 years not good enough. PLEASE fix this!
This is so Stressful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have a 300+ Page REPORT WITH **** LOAD OF HEADINGS AND I CAN NAVIGATE THROUGH IT!!!!!!!
FIX THIS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ended up using google docs. It perfectly shows all the headings in the navigation panel. Good job MS

'Under Review' since 2016! Clearly Microsoft 'really cares' about what the users want... The navigation pane feature is great! I understand there are come complications around moving sections via the navigation pane if they are in a table, however, there should be some workaround available for this by now. Even if it is 'read only' as has been mentioned by others...
