I should be able to put a comment on a footnote. If I need someone to look over a footnote, I have to either put a comment in the body text or highlight the section of the footnote manually.
I want this! But this is a duplicate idea - please search "Comment in footnotes" and upvote that one, as it has over 70 votes.
Literally a law student that came here to make the same point. Editing footnotes is critical. Please add this feature.
I am an attorney. It would be extremely helpful to be able to post a comment on text in a footnote.
I am also an editor for an academic law journal and wish Microsoft word allowed this function every time I edit an article. Honestly, I started using Google Docs for academic journal editing because footnotes are such a huge part of law review articles.
I would prefer to use Word, but not having this footnote comment function was annoying enough that I've almost completely switched to Google docs for academic editing. Right now, I always recommend Google docs for law review editing when I make a recommendation to other law journal editors. If Microsoft makes this change, I'll start recommending Microsoft Word again.
Until then, everyone should just switch to Google Docs for this function!
Yes, please!! I am an editor and the fact that I can't make a comment in the endnotes is extremely irritating.
Endnotes need this function too! Not to be able to insert comments in footnotes and endnotes is hugely inconvenient!
Just updated to Word for Mac 2019. I work as a copy editor. It is such a disappointment that adding comments to footnotes is still not possible! About time that this issue was resolved.
