Fix QAT Button Spacing
The previous request on this has been closed for voting because you say it is fixed. It is not fixed.
I have a QAT that fits on one row on the screen in Word 2013.
The same QAT in Word 2016 (365) does not fit. Over a third of it is pushed to a second non-displayed row.
This is true when it is in mouse mode/not touch mode. In touch mode it is worse!
Still a problem June 25, 2020. Version 2005.
See previous request where we were told in 2016 that it had been fixed. A bald-faced lie.
There is no reason for this! It reduces the functionality af a great tool.
This is a huge disadvantage for the class of MS Word users who use and customize the QAT.
And for the record, that class of users are "super users" of MS Word and their voice should be heard.
The issue presented by the QAT Button Spacing is giving control and customization to the user, and THEN taking it away, which creates a very frustrating user experience.
Still a problem. May 2020!
I just switched to Windows 10 and i can no longer fit 3 or 4 icons on the QAT that I used to have.
It is VERY annoying
Allow customers to reduce the spacing between icons on the Quick Access Toolbar. This is for our convenience. Make it easier for us to use.
Still a problem February 7, 2019. Version 1901.
Due to the nature of Legal document production, we are heavily reliant, not only on addins to Word to make it more functional, but also the customisation of the QAT to make certain functionality available to all users, regardless of current ribbon.
The real estate wasted by the pointless gaps between these buttons is frustrating, made all the more so by the need to add core functionality like Draft View (which is no longer available beside Zoom Level). Please revert to old spacing.Previous comments explain this more clearly.
Although it is much more work that the menu-version toolbars or QAT modification, XML ribbon modification is very flexible and powerful. See Greg Maxey's page: http://gregmaxey.com/word_tip_pages/customize_ribbon_main.html
Also, you can utilize this for QAT customization by adding groups from a custom ribbon to the QAT. A single button can give access to many commands. It is like adding a menu to a classic toolbar.
It is even worse when compared to Word 2010. See the comparison here: http://addbalance.com/word/QATmodification.htm#ComparisonQATIconSize
Here is another thread on the Answers forum complaining about this!

Microsoft seems to specialize in taking away useful features. This increased spacing now means that I have to sacrifice either half of my buttons or half of my screen. PLEASE FIX IT! We need the same spacing that we had before please.
Desktop Office 2016 icons are still too big as of 10/18/2018. After IT uninstalled and reinstalled the 10/10/2018 security update that hacked things up I suddenly have all the extra space between icons.
One of the biggest mistakes Microsoft did was to get rid of the Word custom toolbars you could float. Overnight my productivity decreased at least 50% until I came up with a good QAT (which I exported and share with co-workers). Now over half my icons are hidden, there really needs to be a small icon option like so many other software applications have.
