How can we improve Word for Windows (Desktop Application)? Vote for an existing idea or share a new one.

Rename a file within Word

It should be possible to change the filename of a document without exiting Word. Currently, the only way to do this is to perform a "Save As" and then make sure you go to Windows Explorer to delete the version of the file with the previous filename.

You can't rename a file while it is in use. It's simple logic. Close the file, rename it, reopen it. Every program obeys this rule.

I like this idea as well. In order to rename a word document file I have to exit the program, open file explorer, locate the file, and then finally rename the file.
It would make sense to me to have the option under the "file" ribbon that says "rename" and then you don't have to even exit out of the program to rename the file.
