Put 1/8 em fix width non breaking space before selected characters
In French typography, we have 1/8 fix width, non-breaking space before
<< (typed with a ")
>> (typed with a ")
This functionality is not available. It affects a lot of users !!!

What function is needed? Everyone may solve it by assigning the needed Space sign to a keystroke. Here you find the complete list of Unicode space signs: https://de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leerzeichen
It'd sure be nice in the US too. How many times do you have a colon swallowed by the text it follows? Ends up looking like a period. Comma with semi-colon. Don't even get me started on internal quoting in a quote or character speech. Not too mention the apostrophe showing contraction at the start of a word when at the start of quoting. A full space seems too much for that separation, yet none is really hard to work with for a reader.

Sorry I don't know what the functionality should do
Yes must do ! I noticed this before also.. but I guessed it was a virus.. in my computer.. yes brilliant.. a must do!
very good idea! :-)

Hello, I forgot to add that the functionality works in word with a non breaking space automatically added, but the space is too big - I think that the normal space is a bit bigger than a 1/4em. We would need 1/8em and also have it fixed width.
In UTF8, this could be : U+202F - I tried it in Word, it is a smaller space in some fonts.
The other "ugly" part is that when justifying the text, the normal text space is sometimes more narow than the non breaking fix width space currently used by Word.

Effectivement, cela rend le texte français plus lisible.
