Enable relative paths when linking data sources into merge documents
Currently Word saves the path to data source, e.g. Excel Sheets as absolute paths.
This will render the merge document unusable everytime the location of the data source is changed, for example when the combination of the two documents is usend on an USB stick or exchanged to different vomputers.
Solution: Enable the possibility to save relative paths.
As far as i know this was already possible in older Word versions.

Seriously, Excel - Word links are COMPLETELY USELESS without this feature.

If your Excel documents (or other items) are in the same folder as the Word document before you add the links, and you "Save" the document, the Word document's links will be to those files in that folder (I.e. "relative"). If you use "Save As" to save the Word document with a different name, the links will be changed to "absolute".
