In Word 2016 some important things are missing from spell check
in previous versions of word you could:
1. choosing 'autocorrect' in spell check so future misspellings would be automatically corrected (not longer is autocorrect an option!)
2. edit the word within spell check dialog box - now you have to keep going back to the document if the correct word alternative doesn't show up - then resume (& hit twice) - extremely time consuming (Outlook 2016 has maintained the original spell checker - thanks for small mercies!) can this be fixed?
Autocorrect is back in 365. This is subtle.
If you right-click on a spelling error that has suggestions, next to a suggestion will be an extension triangle (far right).
- Read Aloud
- Change All
- Add to AutoCorrect
- AutoCorrect Options
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I do not know if this is incorporated in 2016. It should be.
About AutoCorrect - subject of separate requests - please vote there
Old one where they promised (in 2016) to fix this:
You can't vote, but you can still comment!
Also, use the feedback mechanism built into Word.
BTW, it is possible to add AutoCorrect back to the menu.
Just switched from Office 2011 yesterday and stumbled on this. MSFT, why on earth did you take this away? There are plenty of writers like me who rely on being able to carry on typing despite errors, knowing the software would fix them. Are you trying to make us all better natural spellers? In may case, I'm just not sure it'll work...let's make Auto-Correct great again, ok?
AUTOCORRECT & AUTOTEXT FEATURES SHOULD ALWAYS BE AVAILABLE JUST AS THEY WERE DESIGNED IN WORD 2003!! That is the main reason I am still using 2003. Please, listen to your users. Believe me, not everyone is a trained typist, but we still have to earn a living using the keyboard and every little bit helps. Thank you in advance!! I love Word 2003. Super user friendly, and does everything I need it to do as a transcriber.

It was also useful for putting in shorthand versions of long words that would then miraculously appear as you typed. For example, in the list of commonly misspelled words, you could add your own - so if you put in 'eg' you could make it write out 'for example' in full. Great for speed typing! Now it's disappeared....
I desparately need this!!! Atuo correct would have corrected my misspelled wrods...now I have extra steps. ridiculuos. This is not user-friendly.
Please bring back 'AutoCorrect' to the spell check. Such a useful tool......
Yes, please bring this back in MS Word and Outlook. I used it all the time, including for autocorrecting things like CO2 and m3/h to their correct formats. It was also very helpful for typing key foreign words in English.
Big pain without it.
Please, please put it back!
PLEASE! As I have arthritis, I often misspell words because my fingers don't work entirely properly. I noticed that the spell checker works in this box, but not anywhere else (i.e., Facebook, Messenger) for me. How do I add it back in the way it was?
Count me and a whole family in - we want spell check as it was.
For heavens sake Microsoft, put the auto correct function back the way it was! It's totally unworkable now and I have no idea why you got rid of it!
Totally agree! I can't believe that Microsoft could be so stupid to remove these functions!
