Track Changes should not track formatting changes for inserted text
With Track Changes enabled, if you insert some new text it appears as a tracked change as it should. However, if you then make a formatting change to the text you have just inserted then it is also shown as a tracked change.
This makes no sense as the formatting change isn't changing anything in the original document, it's only changing new text that is shown as a change anyway.
In practice, it means that you spend time accepting formatting changes so that the real changes can be seen easily. It's especially a problem when dealing with tables where a change to formatting can result in a tracked change against every entry in the table.
So in the same way that modifying newly inserted text doesn't create additional tracked changes (if done by the same user) changing the formatting of new text shouldn't be tracked.
I totally agree. This is my frustration for many years.
@Mark, you are incorrect because if you switch tracking formatting off, also formatting changes on existing text is no longer tracked and that is still something which is still a change to the document and should be visible with tracked changes on. You've got my votes.
The way round this is to go into track changes settings and uncheck track formatting BEFORE making your change. But this should be the default setting!
