Changing color of formatting marks
Editing would be so much faster if there were a way to display formatting marks in a different color than plain black. It confuses me when reading the text.
Thanks for the great feedback! We will consider this feedback for a potential future update.

Please make this change.
seriously. please make this improvement.
three years have gone by since Word Product Team acknowledged this comment.
...a thousand days of users enduring... make it happen!
other forums are asking for this back in 2010.
They already know it's a good idea, as evidenced by this feature's inclusion in MAC version... please.
I agree this would make things so much easier. Please make this happen, please.
Please do this, Microsoft, I hate the black formatting marks.
Yes yes please!!! I deal with this 8th a day, and all the black dots arrows and stars will drive me insane! PLEASE consider adding this feature ASAP!
Has this been updated at all? It would make life so much easier.

Please, please, please do this. Visible WhiteSpace is GREAT in Visual Studio, because you can set it to a very faint color. It is AWFUL in Word as it is the same color as the test!
looking forward to seeing this update in Word for Windows
is there any update?
This is a great Idea!!! Small print and changing fonts can make the same color formatting marks so difficult to see.
This is an excellent idea.
My engineers get very confused when I've inserted a non-breaking space formatting mark between characters. They think I've inserted the degree symbol and have a tendency to change the formatting.
I would also like to see this added to the Windows version of Word.
Viewing formatting marks in Windows is just black marks with black text whereas on Mac it is blue marks with black text which is much easier to decipher.
This is just standard in any programming IDE. And I really miss it in Word...
Yes, that's been an excellent feature of the Mac version for a long time. You can't change the color, but they are displayed in light gray/blue.

Yes please! This is a feature in inCopy, and it makes editing so much easier. Authors constantly leave extra spaces at the beginning of paragraphs that are hard to notice without the show formatting turned on, but when it's the same color it makes the text as a whole much too difficult to read, so I am constantly toggling it on and off. I would much prefer to have it on all the time but in, say, a grey color so it doesn't blend with the rest of the text as much. It helps with finding extraneous returns at the beginning and end of chapters as well, among other things.
Even if the paragraph mark was grey (like old version word on mac) as visually its ugly and jarring to the eye

This is something that should already exist. It's necessary for writing manuscripts, as certain symbols and formatting marks are identical, eg. non-breaking space and degree symbol, so it can be very difficult to edit.
