'Worksheet' Tabs to Word
Word template should be redesign with ‘worksheet tabs’ similar to existing in the Excel Worksheet Tabs.
Then word will be facilitated to users to keep all relevant word documents in to a one doc rather open all doc files. Particularly such modification to word template may highly beneficial for the users who compiling manuals or any other large documents under different subjects but need to bundle up to a one place later.

Can't believe the latest version of Office 365 Word for Mac doesn't have tabbed document windows yet, Apple made this available to all apps as part of macOS a couple OS releases ago. And the Mac word processing app Pages has tabbed windows (actually many Mac apps do). Really disappointed Word/MS is behind here. Please add tabbed windows to all versions of Word.

Please just add tabs already, I'm sure it's not that difficult. There's an add-in for it but it's not very well done imo. And add the option to open folders within Word as a workspace. These things would make it far better for managing multiple docs.

Hallo Microsoft Team,
How hard can it be to add tab option to MS Word. WPS has done it.
Thanks

Multiple tabs at the bottom are needed to switch between different docs inside 1 file for separate chapters of a book or parts of a writing.
----------------------
Summary: writers need different docs inside one file/workbook to use for different chapters of a book or different aspects of a longer writing.
Example 1: at a certain doc length (about 10 pages?), I'd rather have a tab (separate doc) for footnotes instead of scrolling to the bottom.
Example 2: when writing a long article, I'd like to be able to put all related ideas/prose/research inside one tabbed document and use tabs to switch between docs.
Problem defined: switching between word docs is too cumbersome: picture opening 20 separate documents for a 20 chapter book every day. Not fun or functional.
Precedent solution: Excel already uses this feature brilliantly for different spreadsheets inside one file/workbook so a version of the code is already proven/written.

BTW, I phoned Microsoft in Redmond with this idea in the 1990s. That was over 20 years ago. Some manager at Microsoft is lacking vision and/or resolve. This has been under review on this User Voice page for going on 4 years. If you want people (including me) to upgrade, improve your product with this feature. This is an important feature. -

This is long overdue for Word to be able to store related documents on separate tabs - just like Excel. This would alleviate having many documents stored separately on the same topic. I don't understand why this has not been implemented long before now. VISIO has this TOO!!! Let's get it done. It would be so much easier to manage projects and topics with this overdue feature!

Would be great to format it along the right side, like binder tabs

That would be great!
The XML file format supports it, so I think it isn't impossible to do. -

What a great idea!! I love the tab functions of Excel, I think I would find tabs in Word highly useful. HOWEVER, in both Word and Excel, it would be great if I could show two tabs on the screen at the same time.

I could see this being implemented as a container of sections making the root document become a container of 'tabs' or lets say "Document Piece's".
eg;
Piece 1: Cover Page
Piece 2: Contents and Exec Summary
Piece 3: Main body
Piece 4: AppendicesThis would allow page numbering to be defined by 'Document Piece' potentially doing away with the pain of playing with page numbering across section breaks simply because of a landscape page
could it be done in the confines of ooxml standards?
