Make the Dictate feature remain on and active until it is intentionally turned off by the user...like Nuance Dragon dictation does.
Please fix this. It is borderline unusable at present.

Dictate turns off in one second on my computer; it has been doing that for about 2 months.

After so many comments, and having so long to add this features, it's surprising that it hasn't already been implemented. Please could this be be added to the feature list.
Why does it keep turning off? Oh, no once it remained and recorded, and recorded, and recorded, must have been a bug though. Could you turn this bug into a permanent function?
Please pay attention to the comments and the need for the Dictate function to remain on until the user turns it off. I upgraded to get this feature and it is virtually useless as other people have said. We do not want to have to turn it on again every few seconds.
This issue makes Dictate useless, and since it doesn't work at all in the desktop app, I guess I'll have to fire up my Macbook.
Great dictate tool. Please let the user decide when to switch it off. Thanks.
Upvote. No one talks without pausing for 3-5 seconds on an almost continuous basis, and this turns off if I pause for literally 2 seconds. I would recommend at least a 10 second period of silence before turning off, probably more like 30 at minimum. Best case scenario is to be able to explicitly say how long you would like the stretch to be in settings, with a "do not turn off until I tell you to" option. Google and MacOS have no issue with this simple setup.
After some "update" dictation randomly turns off after a few seconds or says its listening but no words are being typed. It's also taking common words and turning them into something else. Dictation was useful before, I wish they would change it back.
This needs to get fixed asap! I use dictation for work and it was working fine until recently. It is annoying as **** and taking me twice as long to get anything done. Why does it stop recording after only a few sentences?

This must be from the recent windows update, it was working great until recently. Now it stops over and over and if you don't notice, you have to go back and pick up where it decided to stop. Flawed technology
This is a real nightmare. I'm dictating, the light is still red on the mic but it just stops writing after 15 seconds or so, as if I'm not talking. I have to turn it off and back on for it to start writing again, only to freeze after another 15-20 seconds. It's completely unusable.
Dictate used to be on for 10-15 mins until recently. Last few days its stopping after 10 seconds even when I am speaking into it. Please look at this soon
Finally about 2 weeks ago all bugs seem to have been sorted. Happy days.
Now we're back to Microsoft Dictate being an absolute nightmare.
I'm chatting away in dictate, not even noticing it's switched off itself.
So then I have to try and remember my storyline and re-dicate it.
It is now switching off every 30 seconds or so mid-speech. How are we
supposed to work like this?
What the heck?
Why are we still having problems 18 months after I first reported it.
It's a different problem every single time.
I've just paid 59.99 for this rubbish.
Please sort it out.
This is a NO BRAINER... may as well have NO dictate button...mine times out after 10 secs! WTH? CMON!
Dictation is listed as an accessibility feature, but it's not accessible for people with disabilities if it can't be adjusted to allow more time to think.
Dictation doesn't just turn off when I pause, though. Sometimes, it spontaneously turns off in the middle of a word.
I can't believe that we need this as an idea and that this isn't a core function yet. If you have a dictate function it is not realistic to have it time out and turn off. Please make this a critical priority.
I need dictate to stay on for a long time and not shut off
Please, please, please change this so that the dictation feature stays on until it is intentionally turned off by the user. The automatic turn off happens too soon, and it is EXTREMELY frustrating to constantly be clicking it back on. In my opinion, there should be no automatic off. It should stay on until intentionally turned off.
This is impacting my productivity significantly. I have just recently bought a new laptop and purchased the new microsoft office package for it. Using the old version of microsoft, this was not an issue. Now I feel that I will need to use my old computer and the old software to be able to complete my work in an efficient manner.
