Add the readability statistics. It increases kids ability to read and write dramatically, 2+ years growth in 1 school year.
As a certified teacher with 20 years experience I have seen dramatic results using the readability statistics. Students are able to use the 6 traits writing model and better focus on Ideas and Content. The readability statistics also allow students to see their mistakes immediately, get correct information and make changes. This allows for more time to conference with the class teacher and focus on the content and idea development. I have personally used this method to instruct students K-12 and seen 2 to 3 years growth in reading and writing in a 9 month academic year. This equates to a 10 to 15 percent increase on standardized tests. More importantly when students leave the classroom, they are far more able to communicate ideas in written form and increase their skill set which makes them more employable when they graduate. For those going to college, it allows them to be effective writers and be prepared to use A.P.A. , M.L.A., Chicago or any other writing format with ease.
