add the ability to insert citation and reference please!
I think the insert citation command is quite important for word doc, this encourages anti-plagiarism please hear our request.
I want citations & bibliography tab to be added to the ribbon to the word online version to make typing research papers online easy and accessible.
I did not see citation online in one drive, just a referrence but no citation inside.
Implement a system in which one can cite a source (students) using the requested format. This would limit a multi-browser search and create a "one-stop-shop".

You can't insert citations in word using a chromebook. Offline or Online. It would be a great help for academic uses for papers, and finals.

I'm a high school librarian and I'd like to teach students and faculty how to use References, but it's an uphill battle because
1) no MLA 8, and
2) no way to load citations generated by library databases (Proquest, Gale, EBSCO, etc.) into the Word References manager.
If finding sources using Bing can do it, why not offer the same functionality regardless of the source?
Otherwise, Google docs will continue to supplant MS Word.
MLA8 Needs to be implemented.
word online doesn't have any citation tool. bring it back cuz it would be very helpful for academic writing

I hope the menu is as complete as offline software. At least they provide the citation submenu, so we can make the reference or bibliography part easier and faster.

Agreed. Even if all the features of the references tab where not there, at least start with the ability to manage sources and insert in text citations. This function is super valuable for the college student, who may be working on more than one device. I find myself launching the desktop version just to plug in source information to track my references.
Consider it a tool to get users from non Microsoft platforms to start and to continue to use the Word application. This feature of managing the sources will help the Word application to stay relevant and useful in a very mobile academic generation.
Thank you for reading this comment.

Adding a citation option will help students who are writing reports for school or college students who are doing research papers
Please can you add some additional reference options - social media, youtube, survey data, photo online, photo in print, course notes
Add the whole Reference tab to MS Word Online please.
Whenever quoted material is inserted or typed into a document, Word should search the internet for the source and automatically suggest the correct citation.

As a student, the wonders of the references tab are very important to me. To all the students we sell Office to, I believe it's very important we stay up to date for all student resources.
"In April 2016, MLA replaced its seventh edition resources with a new eighth edition. This updated version reflects the ways in which digital publication has changed how writers and researchers document sources. Therefore, the new edition includes significant shifts in the approach to source documentation in academic writing. While earlier editions emphasized the importance of following specific guidelines for formatting, the eighth edition focuses on the practice and process of scholarly documentation. The logic here is basic: a style guide should offer a method that is widely applicable. Rather than insisting that writers follow strict citation formulas, this handbook outlines the principles of MLA documentation and explains how writers can use them in many different situations."
Yes i second this. Pls make it happen! Make Word great again!!!!

I absolutely agree to this idea!
add the ability to add in citations on word online
Students, primarily those in high-school/college/university or even professionally may sometimes need swift access to their documents, and especially with the case of aspiring historians, the implementation of a tab in order to reference is ever important.

I agree.. The only reason I use word desktop is because of the references tab. It would make word online VERY useful to college students like me!
