Please add the "Show non-printing characters" Button
This feature is now completed. Can you all give it a try and see if it works well. Will love to hear your feedback, feel free to comment on this thread itself.

Please please please! Surely this is a core part of Word functionality for a sizeable proportion of users? Not having it makes word on the web much more confusing and frustrating to use!

Are you serious?

Please bring this button to Office 365 Word. If nothing else, it will provide a feature not available in Google Docs, giving this product a leg up vs. the competition.
PLEASE add the show paragraph ending button to Word online! It is the single most useful feature for students who are learning how to format documents; without that feature, gauging spacing, tabs, indents and other document features is nearly impossible.

Can you please reinstate the ability to see the non-printing characters.
Often use word online for collaborative docs & would be great to be able to use punctuation view..

Can you please reinstate the ability to see the non-printing characters. Why oh why was it seen as a good idea to suppress it. It certainly asks some questions of whatever beta testing was done or reviewed.

Please add this funtion

Are you kidding me?! You want users to adopt these online tools in collaborative environments, extolling all these fabulous opportunities to share editing duties and then strip some of the most basic and necessary tools to do so...PLEASE put this function back in so I can see spaces and tabs and paragraphs.
Please add the "Show/Hide formatting characters" Button

I was looking for how to Show Formatting Marks in Word for the Web (Office 365) and couldn't find it. Searching the Web for the command was unproductive. I have displayed Formatting Marks nearly 100% of the time in over 2 decades of Word use. I liken the showing of Formatting Marks to having road signs along the highways when traveling. Examining the Formatting Marks in a document provides over 95% of the explanation for why the document looks like it does. The last 5% is more elusive, but without Formatting Marks, it can be extremely difficult and time-consuming to troubleshoot. Please add this function to Word for the Web!
I do not see any logic in omitting the "show formatting marks" or "Show non-printing characters" button on Word online. It seems to be useful for a lot of people, quite easy to turn "on" or "off" on the standard, non-online Word version, and does not take too much space on Word Ribbon. I personally use it everyday for different purposes in my work and also personal projects and find it very helpful to see the formatting of the file. I find the lack of it confusing (being already used to this option), as mistakes in spacing and other formatting options could be made without it, but also as there are many different ways to format a text and the surrounding space and sometimes it could be difficult to tell what was done without the visible markings. For me personally it is an invaluable and time-saving tool when I want to create or understand the formatting of the text, which otherwise stays hidden. This feature is very useful for documents that we create and also for the ones created by someone else.
In my opinion it would be a good idea to include this feature in the online version of Word as well.

Absolute madness to hide the document structure from the user! What were you thinking?
This makes fixing the kind of mistakes real humans make soooo much harder.
It's a very valuable feature for formatting and troubleshooting.

Please. Forced to switch to Chromebook. Don't want to switch to Google docs but this is a key feature I need to stay invested in Microsoft Office.
Online Word is worthless without this feature when trying to work on complicated formatting documents such as bibliographies or works cited pages. I paid the money for Microsoft 365, but I can't use it for a lot of my documents because I have to use the downloaded version to access this feature!
PLEASE add this ESSENTIAL feature for GREAT documents!!.
Without it there is no reason to use WordOnline at all as we have to check everything in the other version anyway :-(
I cannot believe this has been taking more than 3 years. I cannot believe someone decided that this function was unnecessary. Word Online should NOT be a simplified version of the program.
PLEASE restore this basic function in the online version.
